David Ackert, President

David Ackert has been a client development mentor to lawyers and their firms for over 15 years.  He is the president of The Ackert Advisory, a consulting firm that specializes in driving business results for law firms.  Through his programs his has worked thousands of lawyers, many of whom hail from top 20 global Am Law firms. He is the founder of the Managing Partner Institute, developing more effective law firm leaders worldwide, and the founder of Practice Boomers, winner of the “Your Honor Award” in both the US and Canada for excellence in practice development.

Michael Blachly is the Director of Marketing & Business Development for Gray Reed & McGraw, a full-service, Texas based law firm with over 125 attorneys. Michael brings more than 18 years of experience in corporate marketing, business development and corporate communications primarily centered on driving business in the professional services sector.

Michael provides Gray Reed strategic direction on the firm’s business development and marketing initiatives and leads a team responsible for business development, marketing technology, research, process improvement, branding, creative production, public relations and events. 

He currently serves as President of the Legal Marketing Association’s Southwest Region and has held numerous leadership positions within LMA. Michael graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in journalism and from the SMU Cox School of Business’s Graduate Marketing Certificate Program.

Steve Crossman joined Bloomberg Law in May 2015 as Director of Sales, West Region.
 
Steve is responsible for leading sales efforts to prominent U.S. and global law firms based in the Western half of the United States. Steve sets strategy and leads a team of industry experts tasked with broadening the penetration of Bloomberg BNA’s leading technology and information solutions.
 
Steve brings more than 20 years of experience in sales and business leadership. He has served as a business leader, attorney and entrepreneur with experience in start-ups, privately and publicly held corporations, small and large law firms. His unique blend of perspective as a businessperson, sales person and sales leader has earned him numerous sales and sales leadership awards & accolades. He regularly works with business leaders and legal professionals understanding and advising on how to solve specific business challenges.

John Cunningham, Esq.

John is a freelance writer and communications consultant who practiced law for nearly 17 years. During nine of those years, he served as V.P. and General Counsel to a publicly held international company and as General Counsel and Secretary to a Fortune 100 subsidiary.

He also served as a news editor and reporter for Lawyers Weekly publications for more than four years. As a reporter and writer, John has produced articles for more than 20 press publications, covering stories about virtually all legal practice disciplines, as well as the marketing and management of law firms.  As a freelancer, he has also written white papers, newsletters, marketing materials and Web site content for trade associations and professional service firms.

Strategic marketing and business planning are at the core of Beth Marie Cuzzone's role at Goulston & Storrs. As the Director of Client Service and Business Development, Beth leads client development initiatives for firm members, practice areas and industry groups. She manages a wide range of business development activities including in-house sales training such as networking, client service and presentation skills. Beth is also part of a team responsible for overseeing firm branding, external communications, client relationship support and managing the department’s budget. One of Beth’s essential roles is conducting, analyzing and reporting feedback from client interviews, ensuring the firm and its clients remain cohesive.

Beth co-authored the books The Law Firm Associate's Guide to Personal Marketing and Selling and Marketing Success: How Did She Do That? published by the American Bar Association. Eric Fletcher is a 30-year veteran of marketing and business development. A former advertising agency partner and professional service consultant, he has spent the last 18 years in legal marketing and business development. Within the marketing profession at large he has been named to the list of "50 Marketing Thought Leaders Over 50" published by Brand Quarterly Magazine, he co-authored the 2013 book "8 Mandates For Social Media Marketing Success," and has written and published the Marketing Brain Fodder blog since 2002. He has directed marketing initiatives and led teams for AmLaw 100, 200 and NLJ 350 firms. Eric is a Member of the Governing Body of the CMO Collective of Texas, and the Thompson Reuters CMO Advisory Board. A 2013 TEDx speaker, he now leads the Marketing and Business Development efforts of Liskow & Lewis, and resides in New Orleans.


Paul Grabowski, Chief Marketing Officer

Paul Grabowski has been involved in various facets of business development, marketing, media relations, communications, administration, and operations for over 20 years. In 2012, he was named as one of the “Top 250 Private Company CMOs” by an industry leading executive rankings service. For the past 11 years, his focus has been in the legal and professional consulting arena. In 2015 he co- authored “The ABC’s of Legal Marketing” which is available on Amazon.

Over his career, Paul has been responsible for the creation and implementation of marketing and branding campaigns, media relations, operations and administrative efforts, business development and training programs and the creation of several Internet and intranet projects. His work on behalf of three firms has been recognized within the legal marketing community having received multiple awards from the Legal Marketing Association (LMA), for website design, promotional materials and advertising campaigns. Additionally, his re-branding efforts earned one firm the “Legal Standard of Excellence Award” from the Web Marketing Association of America.

Prior to his work in the legal industry, Paul served as a project manager in corporate communications for Reliant Energy, Inc. Before his to his foray into the Fortune 500 arena, Paul honed his business skills while working for the Chicago Bears and Houston Oilers of the NFL as well as at the NCAA Division I collegiate athletic level and in private sports & entertainment facility management. He currently maintains his license as an attorney in the state of Texas.


Jessica Hoffmann, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer

Jessica Hoffmann is a licensed attorney and serves as the Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of Strasburger.  In that role, Jessica is responsible for the business and administrative operations of the firm, including finance, technology, marketing, budgeting, human resources, facilities, recruiting, and professional development.

Jessica has served as Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer since 2008 and, prior to that, oversaw marketing and human resources.  Jessica also worked as an attorney for the firm from 2002-2006, primarily in the professional liability area.

Catherine is a former corporate counsel and law firm executive who now teaches and provides training and consulting services in process improvement and project management, strategic planning, marketing, and business development.
 
A Legal Lean Sigma® Black Belt and a certified Six Sigma Green Belt, Catherine is the CEO and a Founder of the Legal Lean Sigma Institute, which offers consulting and the first and only process improvement and project management certifications, courses, and workshops designed for the legal profession. In addition to creating Legal Lean Sigma®, Catherine invented the Legal WorkOut®, a collaborative method for engaging in process improvement.

Brad Messerich has been with Thomson Reuters for 11 years in a variety of sales roles supporting law firms of all sizes, corporate legal departments and government agencies.  In his current role as a Business Development Sales Executive, he consults with legal marketing and business development professionals across the country to integrate Monitor Suite competitive intelligence, Business Development Premier CRM/ERM software, and Thomson Reuters company data into the law firms’ client development strategy.  When Brad isn’t busy visiting with legal professionals, he spends his time having fun with his wife and children at home in Minnesota.

She began her career working with consultants, accountants and architects and has spent the last decade in law firms. She currently leads the 16-person marketing and business development team at Vedder Price, a 300-lawyer law firm with offices in seven locations. Toni Minick joined LexisNexis in 2005 and currently serves as Director of Product Management for the company’s leading client relationship offering, InterAction. Her background in both product management and software user experiences spans more than 16 years, 13 of which have been focused on legal software solutions. From that knowledge base of customer understanding, Toni is committed to helping users address problems in simple and elegant ways. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from George Fox University.


Steven R. Petrie, Chief Strategy Officer

Steven Petrie manages the strategy and operations department at Faegre Baker Daniels. In this capacity, he oversees the collection, extraction and application of financial data and performance metrics for purposes of business analysis, practice development, creative pricing and strategic planning. Steve holds a Yellow Belt certification in Legal Lean Sigma and provides guidance for the firm's institutional efforts in the areas of legal process improvement and project management. Steve's department is also home to the firm's office administration and compliance support functions.

Prior to his career in law firm management, Steve worked for the strategy and operations practice of a large consulting firm. He is a frequent industry contributor on topics of law firm economics, profitability analysis, alternative pricing and process efficiency.

Kacey Rojas, Senior Business Development Manager

Kacey Rojas is a Senior Business Development Manager at Vinson & Elkins LLP. She has worked in the legal industry for over 10 years both as a legal assistant and in business development. Based in Houston, Kacey supports the business development efforts and initiatives for the largest practice group at V&E. By keeping her focus on the strategic plan of the firm and utilizing competitive research, she is able to arm V&E’s attorneys with the tools needed to expand their book of business. Kacey graduated cum laude from Sam Houston State University with a B.A. in English and Sociology.

Audrey H. Rubin is Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the Law Department of Aon Corporation, the leading global provider of risk management and human resources consulting and outsourcing. Audrey is responsible for all financial, technology, personnel and other business matters of that department, which has over 250 lawyers worldwide and provides strategic legal counsel to all Aon business lines.

Prior to joining Aon, Audrey was President and Founder of Rubin Solutions, Ltd., advising professional service firms and corporate law departments on finance and operations. Rubin has also been COO for the large Chicago firm Wildman Harrold Allen and Dixon, and the boutique firm Butler Rubin Saltarelli & Boyd. Prior to that, she was General Counsel and Vice President of Legal and Human Resources for three global companies: Orbitz, Grant Thornton, and Apollo Travel Services, and before that a business litigation partner in private practice.

Success as head of operations for a law department and law firms, a General Counsel, Vice President of Human Resources, law firm partner and board member, underscore that Rubin understands all facets of business. She excels in creating practical business efficiencies, assessing budgets and systems, advising on profitable fee arrangements, and developing teams and leaders. The Aon Law Department, largely as a result of her operational management, won the 2016 ACC Value Champions Award.

Rubin teaches “The Business of Law” at the University of Illinois College of Law. She is a highly regarded speaker and columnist. She was the focus of a cover story in Inside Counsel on “How to Cut Legal Spending.” She was also featured in Crain’s Chicago Business, March 2016, in “How lawyers are like office supplies.”

Rubin received her J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law where she was on the Dean’s List. She graduated cum laude from Yale University with a B.A. and was a Yale National Scholar. She has received certification as a mediator/arbitrator by DePaul University School of Law. She was certified in Business Finance for Executives at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business.


Telisa Webb Schelin, Chief Legal Officer, Executive Vice President and Secretary

Telisa Webb Schelin is our chief legal officer, executive vice president and secretary. Ms. Schelin is responsible for all legal aspects of the company, including corporate governance; public company reporting; securities offerings; mergers and acquisitions; investor relations; lease and contract administration; risk management; labor and employment matters; litigation management; and finance, real estate and commercial business transactions. Ms. Schelin has 15 years of experience in corporate, securities and regulatory matters. In September 2005, she joined the parent company of our former advisor as assistant general counsel and was responsible for securities matters for all of its public companies. In February 2008, she became part of the dedicated management team assembled by our former advisor to focus exclusively on our legal and related matters. From 1998 until 2005, she was in private practice with Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP.

Ms. Schelin is licensed to practice law in Texas and Oklahoma and has a juris doctor with highest honors and a bachelor of arts in political science from the University of Tulsa. In 2010, she was recognized by the Dallas Business Journal as one of its “40 Under Forty,” which recognizes accomplished executives and entrepreneurs under the age of 40, and was named one of the 10 leading “Women of Influence” by Real Estate Forum magazine.

Ms. Schelin is an active member, and was the 2010–2011 chairperson, of Attorneys Serving the Community, a volunteer organization of over 300 Dallas/Fort Worth women attorneys that provide fundraising support for local nonprofit organizations whose programs benefit women, children and families. Ms. Schelin also serves as the chair of the board of directors of AVANCE-Dallas, Inc., a community-based, nonprofit organization that provides family support and education services to at-risk, economically impoverished families.


Adam L. Stock, Chief Marketing and Client Service Officer

Adam L. Stock is the Chief Marketing and Client Services Officer at Allen Matkins. Adam leads marketing and client development initiatives for firm members as well as practice areas and industry groups. He oversees the firm's branding, external communications and client relationship support.  Prior to joining Allen Matkins, Adam was the Chief Sales and Marketing Officer at Dorsey and Whitney LLP.

Adam brings his passion of marketing and technology to helping law firms doing a better job providing value to their clients. Before joining the legal profession, Adam hired outside law firms as a high technology executive for Adobe Systems, Auctiva Corporation, Electronics for Imaging, Inc., and several start-up companies.

He is frequent speaker on law firm sales, technology and video. Adam has been the Chair of and instrumental in growing the Legal Marketing Technology Conference/West into the premier technology conference for legal marketing. He serves on the board of Legal Marketing Association. He is a Board Member of the Legal Sales and Service Organization (LSSO).


Gabriel H. Teninbaum, Professor of Legal Writing, Director of the Institute on Law Practice Technology & Innovation, Director of the Law Practice Technology Concentration
Suffolk University Law School


Prof. Teninbaum began his legal career by attending law school at night while serving in the U.S. Secret Service. After graduating from Suffolk Law in 2005, he had a two-year stint as a trial attorney at a Boston firm before joining the full-time faculty at Suffolk University Law School in 2007. Since then, he has taught 9 different courses and has more than 20 publications to his name.

Today, he teaches LPS and also leads Suffolk Law's legal technology and innovation work, including directing the Institute on Law Practice Technology and Innovation, and also directing Suffolk Law's academic concentration (akin to an undergraduate major) in legal technology/innovation. He also built SpacedRepetition.com, which is an app that harnesses scientific research to allow law students and bar preppers to learn far more in far less time. He was named one of the 2016 FastCase 50, which honors the law's smartest, most courageous innovators, techies, visionaries, & leaders. During the 2016-17 academic year, Prof. Teninbaum will be a Visiting Fellow at the Information Society Project at Yale Law School.


Katy von Treskow, Director of Marketing Communications

Katy von Treskow joined Winston & Strawn in 2008 and currently serves as Director of Marketing Communications. In this role, she develops strategic profile raising initiatives for key markets and practices and oversees the firm’s public relations efforts. She is responsible for managing the firm’s ongoing branding and advertising efforts, online marketing initiatives and business development training and coaching programs.

Ms. von Treskow began her career as a technical recruiter at a software company in Austin, Texas. After leaving the start-up environment, she worked in a variety of global marketing and practice development roles at law firms in Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, and New York City. In these roles, Ms. von Treskow managed firmwide marketing, practice development and business development initiatives.

Ms. von Treskow earned her Bachelors of Science, with honors, from Vanderbilt University.

A graduate of Texas Christian University and Southern Methodist University Law School, she is a member of the Texas Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the American College of Health Care Executives.

David Wheeler is the General Counsel for BBA Aviation’s Aftermarket Services businesses.  Prior to joining BBA Aviation in 2015, David was with GE Aviation where he was senior M&A counsel and general counsel for several businesses.  Before joining GE, he was a principal at Squire Sanders & Dempsey (now Squire Patton Boggs), where his practice focused on domestic and cross-border M&A, commercial transactions, capital markets and board of directors’ representations.  David graduated from the University of Vermont with a B.S. in Business Administration.  He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Cincinnati College of Law. David is also a Certified Public Accountant.
