Pre-application Process

Interested Firms should complete and submit the Pre-application Form by 1/31/2008.

When completing the pre-application form, applicants should select one of these three Award Levels:

- Level 1: Commitment
Most requirements are being built or in place

- Level 2: Achievement
Demonstrated results in specific areas

The Thomas H. Lee Award for Service Excellence in Law application is centered on the following two elements:

1. Organizational Profile

The Organizational Profile is a snapshot of your law firm, the key influences on how you operate and the key challenges you face. It is based on two sections:

Organizational Description

This is a description of your Firm’s business environment and the key relationship with Stakeholders, Clients & Vendors. It is centered on the following two elements:

– The Firm’s Organizational Environment
» Organizational Culture
» Workplace and Employee Profile
» Major Technologies

– The Firm’s Organizational Relationship
» Organizational Structure and Governance System
» Client Relationship Processes
» Organizational Innovation Processes
» Roles and Relationships with Vendors 


Organizational Goals & Challenges

This section is dedicated to the description of the Firm’s competitive environment, main goals and aspirations along with key strategic challenges. Each area should be detailed separately as follows:

– Competitive Environment

– Strategic Challenges

- Organizational Goals and Aspiration

The Self Assessment is the central element of the Thomas H. Lee Award for Service Excellence in Law.

Participating Firms will describe their accomplishments and operating processes in the following four Categories:

– Value Delivery

– Alignment

– Improvement

– Sustainability


Category One - Value Delivery: Your Firm’s ability in helping your clients achieve their goals.

In this section:
• Describe your Firm’s philosophy in Value Delivery.

• Describe the differentiating and unique elements of your Firm’s value proposition to clients.

• Identify and explain the reasons why clients choose your firm as a provider of legal services.

• Explain how you ensure that Value Delivery is the key driver of your Firm’s activities. 


Category Two - Alignment: Your Firm’s ability to deliver its brand promise to clients

In this section:
• Describe the relationship between your operating processes and your Firm’s commitment to Value Delivery. • Please illustrate how your Firm’s plan is deployed and executed throughout the Firm.

• Identify the main contributions of the Firm’s various departments in accomplishing goals and aspirations of the organization. • Please describe how client service is delivered within your Firm.

• Identify and describe the synergies between processes throughout the Firm.


Category Three - Improvement: Your Firm’s ability to efficiently meet the evolving requirements of your clients, workforce, business partners and the community

In this section:

• Illustrate your Firm’s systematic efforts to improve Value Delivery and operational efficiency within and among key areas.

• Describe your Firm’s methodology to improve business processes.

• Describe your firm’s approach to planning and problem solving.

• Provide examples of business processes you have significantly improved in recent times. 


Category Four - Sustainability: Your Firm’s ability to maintain performance and to avoid and prevent mistakes, inefficiencies, variations, reworks and breakdowns

In this section:
• Illustrate your Firm’s methodology to ensure repeatable and sustainable business results.

• Describe metrics and measurements used to validate organizational efforts.

• Provide examples of sustained organizational performance over time.

• Illustrate how Value Delivery is sustained within the Firm.
